Last Saturday was not only the opening night for a La Sylphide in new scenography, but also the first time the Danish Royal Theaters audience saw the fifth Acropolis Stage Curtain since the first was painted for the opening of the theater in 1874. The motive is the Acropolis mountain with the Parthenon and the worlds oldest theater the Dionysos and on a terrace in the front the three muses Thalia of Comedy, Melpomene of Tragedy and nearly hidden by the dark red velvet curtain Terpsichore the muse of Dance. You find them again in the celling with their six other sisters Kalliope, Kleio, Erato, Euterpe, Urania and Polyhymnia. The new curtain was made possible with donations from the Queen Margrethes and the Prince Consurts Foundation “Dronning Margrethes og Prins Henriks Fond” and the Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary’s Foundation “Kronprins Frederiks og Kronprinsesse Marys Fond”
