One of my favorite artist is the painter Cathrine Raben Davidsen. I was introduced to her some years ago while I was in the Board of the Art Society for the employees of the Danish department store Magasin “Magasin’s Kunstforening” the second oldest employees Art Society in Denmark only surpassed by the one at Carlsberg. Ms. Raben Davidsens art really speaks to me, her stroke and sense of color, the way her inspiration comes from mythology and literature and the touch of sadness in her art really moves me.
In 2008 she made the most amazing wall painting for the renovation of Nimb in the Danish amusement park Tivoli Gardens for the bar she decorated the walls with the ancient Greek myth of the sisters Philomela and Procne. The bar is a great retread from the Gardens and one of my sanctuaries in Copenhagen.
The exhibition “The Inkwell” at Trapholt Museum of Modern Art in Kolding was truly a visit to Juthland worth in 2010. The monochrome coloring from black to white and the few works with color was very inspiring and gave a particular mood to the whole experience of the exhibition. The co-operation with Royal Copenhagen the world famous maker of china using old molds from classic vases as canvases for Ms. Raben Davidsens stories was so beautiful.
For my birthday two weeks ago from Ms. Berliner and Ms. Bjerre Bruun I got the fantastic book Deco Mannequin illustrated throughout with selected works 2005-2013 and that will for a while be the closest I will come to be a guardian of one of Ms. Raben Davidsens work of art.
