Yesterday after yoga I was supposed to work a bit but decided that i could relax with a some comedy on Netflix, instead my eyes caught the image of the poster for Blood Brother and for the next 92 minute I meet a young American man Mr. Rocky Braat from Pittsburgh that put his own troublesome childhood aside and decided to become a volunteer in a AIDS orphanage near Chennai on a roundtrip to India. He stayed for some time and then continued his trip but could not get the kids and women at the orphanage out of this mind, some he went back for the rest of the summer. The kids called him Rocky Anna in Tamil Anna means brother and they were sad and upset when he left them. The documentary shows him coming back and continuing his work helping at the orphanage, teaching at the village school and creating a life for himself in India. It is made by his friend from art school Mr. Steve Hoover and fully funded so all profits are put in to help support the orphanage and the kids with HIV in India.

Most important is the establishment of LIGHT (Living to Inspire Global Healing Today) – a 501c3 accredited non-profit organization created in response to Rocky Braat and the film as a way to directly help and support Rocky, the kids and other orphanages.

It is a truly moving and inspiring story and a big contrast to what many of us do everyday, but also shows that we all have the opportunity to choose differently – it has for sure moved me, how it will evolve I don’t know.
