Saturday was the opening night for two of the crown jewels in the repertoire of the Danish Royal Ballet in the Danish Royal Theater at Kongens Nytorv. The evening started out very daring with La Sylphide of the father of the Danish ballet Mr. August Bounonville but the scenography was change dramatically gone was the romantic of the 1900’s and we went to a windy city in amazing gray scales design by Set & Costume Designer Ms. Bente Lykke Møller gone was all the tartan replaced by tones from black light gray only the wedding shawl was a beautiful grey tartan, it was like the setting of the 1. act set the story free and make it present but very true to the original. The set in 2. act was a bit more challenging for me is it a dream or illusion and some of it very real in all white.
The part of Madge has been danced by men and women, but for the first time the role was also a man a jealous soothsayer danced by Artistic Director Mr. Nikolai Hübbe elegant and dangerous seducing everyone even James at the end.
The second part or the evening is the quality check of every company Mr. Harald Landers Etudes taking us from the morning school to the grand finale, it is alway interesting to see if the company delivers and they did – an amazing performance and to the point.
